Considering going to college in Southern California and I live in Arizona. Pro's and con's of living in Cali

Considering going to college in Southern California and I live in Arizona. Pro's and con's of living in Cali?
I have always wanted to live in California, I feel that it is the right environment for me. I like the laid back atmosphere, the ocean, and the overall attitude. However I am a conservative individual and I know that Cal is a very liberal state. I am worried about the cost of living as a college student as well. Someone help me out if you are like me or if you live there?!

Hey. not all of us are liberal. ;) hehe but yea plenty of Californians are. =p cost of living is probably more expensive compared to AZ, just cuz it is CA (pretty much anywhere you are in the state, esp. near the coast tho), but at least you get paid a lil more to compensate. However with the state budget as it is (well, all the states are bad, but CA especially!!! especially if your budget has to do with anyone who works in any way for the state =/ ) it might be a lil more difficult on your pocketbook. If you do move to CA, just be prepared to tighten your belt a lil bit & cut a few more corners. But at least, like you might have heard, the beach is cooler than the rest of the state (especially the valley!! agh it's muggy) ;) & much cooler than AZ. & California is beautiful!! =)

Will I be stuck going to an instate college

Will I be stuck going to an instate college?
I have a 4.0 GPA, which I intend to keep throughout high school. I am in no sports or clubs, but I am going to take at least five AP courses. I have no money at all for tuition so I would need close to a full scholarship. If you have a 4.0 GPA you get a full scholarship to instate college (Arizona), and if you exceed on the standardized testing you also get a full scholarship. Is there a way I could not go to an instate college, and is there anything I can do to improve my chances?

Answer 1 :
better start volunteering
Answer 2 :
Uhm, financial aid and maybe get a job? Your grades are awesome. And any college education is better than none at all.
Answer 3 :
fight for what you believe in if you can dream it you can do it you gotta fight for it and dont give it up if you want it, you want it and you gotta go get it you can do it but ite hard, work hard and itll pay off.
Answer 4 :
apply for financial aid... just apply to the schools you want to attend and they will offer you what they can... if one school gives you a great deal, tell the other ones (or the one you really want) and barter with them... a lot of the times you can get a better deal if they really want you at their school
Answer 5 :
Well, you should definately play a sport or two this year. That will help A LOT. Trust me. Also, you could do other extracurricular activities, like run for president of your grade. A 4.0 GPA is amazing. Keep up the good work, add some more activities, and I bet you could get a scholarship from Princeton!
Answer 6 :
Remember you can take out government loans. Though scholarships are the best choice since you don't have to pay them back, don't let a lack of scholarships hold you back. You GPA sounds great and with that GPA and depending on the type of college you would like to attend, getting scholarships from private sources and from the schools you apply to shouldn't be hard at all. I suggest through to join at least one club before you leave high school and be involved. Sports isn't necessarily especially if you don't have the time for them and won't continue it in college......They best way to not go to an instate college is by continuing doing what your doing and not applying to the colleges you don't want to go to.
Answer 7 :
okay here are a couple of websites you need to get familiar with www.fafsa.ed.gov - based on how much money your family makes, the government determines how much you are able to pay and tries to cover the rest through grants and scholarships. best thing ever www.fastweb.com offers a lot of scholarships for students. fill out as many as you can... it adds up and basically, search around for scholarships on your own as well. and even if after you do all this work, universities have their own financial aid offices - so after all the fafsa and scholarships you can still get mor money - you're never stuck anywhere if money is the issue (it just depends on how much work you're willing to do to get your need met)
Answer 8 :
You can go anywhere you want. to go! Don't feel that you are limited by your financial situation. Apply to all of the schools you want to go to and be sure to inquire about their scholarships. If all else fails, you can always take out loans and work a PT job.
Answer 9 :
Begin shopping around at the colleges YOU want to attend. Be honest with them about your adademic and financial situations. Most schools have monies set aside for students who meet all other admissions requirements and lack funding even after scholarships and full financial aid. They use those funds for individuals who they see a large amount of potential in! With a 4.0 GPA, you have LOTS of potential, so use it!! Get to making those contacts. Write letters to admissions offices asking lots of questions, etc. Also, ask them to send you full lists of possible scholarships so that you may review them to see if you qualify for prizes you may not even know exist!! My very best of luck to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Answer 10 :
you should definitely start to volunteer, it looks really good. you are a smart person, but they are looking for someone who does more than get good grades. do some school actvities, sports and clubs help. they just want to see if you are involved and dedicated. if you are not financially able to pay it off, look into every scholarship opportunities they have. also, ask them about fafsa and fill out that form. that basically pays for you tuition and most of your books. It's helped me TREMENDOUSLY. congratulations on your good grades! Keep it up and Good Luck!!!

Southwestern College Arizona

Southwestern College Arizona?
Have you ever heard of it? Would you recommend a girl from Wisconsin go to study missions & business there? I am starting to seriously consider applying because of the cheap tuition. I know that I will have to pay a fortune to fly there and home on holidays and such, but it would be better than having to pay almost $30,000 that my top college choice has me paying. Any thoughts on this would be so helpful. Thank you in advance! :)

I would advise against it. The only "real" Universities in Arizona are the University of Arizona (Tucson), Arizona State University (Phoenix), and Northern Arizona University (Flagstaff). Here's a hint for you, if a school has "college" in the name and not University, then it is either a 2-year degree school or a bottom-level 4-year school. Also, I doubt this school is regionally accredited, which means your courses won't transfer to a "real" University.
