Is college in Arizona too far?
Next year I'm a Senior in High School and it is time for me to start looking for colleges I wanted to go to the Culinary Institute of America but it turned out to not be the college i was looking for. So, I looked at Le Cordon Bleu. There is one in pittsburgh were i live but it only offers an associates degree and i want a bachelors degree. The only Le Cordon Bleu that offers a bachelors program in in Arizona. I'm nervous because all my family is in Pittsburgh and I don't want to be far away, but I also want to go and pursue my dreams as a culinary artist. My mother said that I cant let family hold me back and my father is totally against the idea. What do you think I should do? Go to Arizona or find somewhere else to go? ps: My plan is to go to college the fall after i graduate and i will only be seventeen.

The question that you should be asking is ..... If YOU and YOUR parents can afford to send you where you want to go NOT the distance. You have to think through this process and make sure that the degree that you are studying is going to have jobs when you are done. Do you research stay away from loans as much as possible. Le cordon blue is a waste of money very few jobs in that especially with the economy the way it is and will be you need to research it better. Bellow is link to labor stats. Research is key use it. Maybe a communtiy college will save you time and money until you know for sure what you want to do.

starting over in a new place is hard no matter how old you are. the key is to go there with well-defined goals and work your ass off. a bachelor's is much better than a 2-year degree so yes, go to arizona. however, if you do not want to leave your family behind, that associates might be worth it. however, if you get a bachelor's and you change your mind about culinary school in the future, as long as you've gotten great grades, you can always shift to law or consulting. it's safer with the 4-year program in my opinion.

You're young and you sound like you need to stay nearer to home a while longer. BUT I think there's a good option you haven't realized you can use. Go to the Cordon Bleu in Pittsburg and get their AA. When you finish that, you should be old enough to be ready to move further from home, and you SHOULD be able to transfer to the school in Arizona at that time and take the additional time for the BA. Meanwhile, talk to the local school to see if they agree that would be a good option and a good way to do it. In reality, you might be able to get a job with your AA degree to pay for your classes in Arizona. Your mom is doing well to be supportive. Your father is worried about losing his child. Usually it's the mother who has trouble letting go. This plan may satisfy both your parents. It's worth talking to your local school and investigating the feasability of my plan. cw
